Trailer Park Boys' stars in new series: The Drunk and On Drugs Happy Funtime Hour
Will karma be kind to the much-loved trio who portrayed the Trailer Park Boys?
Who knows, but the real question is will they be as funny as they previously were?
Former TPB stars Mike Smith, Robb Wells, and Jean-Paul Tremblay are set to be reincarnated in a new half-hour comedy series on Showcase that will feature the actors in new roles. The series, that they will write and produce themselves, is set to air in 2010.
The title says it all: The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour. It's described as a combination of narrative and sketch comedy in the vein of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
The threesome will play actors on a children's show (The Happy Funtime Hour) whose cast accidentally take a hallucinogenic drug that makes them believe that they're the characters they're portraying on the show, including pirates (Arrr!), '80s playboys, and lame superheroes.
A dysfunctional crime family and a dangerous cult will add to the crazy mix. Oh, and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson will also contribute to the festivities.
In a press release, Wells explained that things won't be a replication of the Trailer Park Boys series and films. “The series is definitely a departure from our previous work, but with bold characters and a storyline that pushes the envelope Drunk and on Drugs still has a huge dose of our trademark humour that I think our fans expect from us.”
