Montreal Alouettes early favourites to beat Saskatchewan Roughriders in Grey Cup

After demolishing the B.C. Lions 56-18 in November 22's East Final, the Montreal Alouettes have been installed by a variety of bookmakers as early nine point favourites to get their hands on the big trophy next Sunday (November 29) in Calgary.

The Canadian Football League's best team during the regular season, the 15-3 Alouettes were impressive against the overmatched Lions and will now look to steamroll Saskatchewan. The 10-7-1 Roughriders punched their ticket to the Grey Cup with a 27-17 homefield win over Calgary in the CFL's West Final.

Montreal will be out to make amends after failing to win last year's Grey Cup in front of their home fans. They lost 22-14 to the Calgary Stampeders at Olympic Stadium. Now the Als have the chance to go to Calgary and win their first CFL title since 2002. Saskatchewan won it all in 2007.

Sunday's game is set for a 3:30 p.m. PST kickoff from McMahon Stadium in Cowtown. As blogged in this space a few weeks back, Blue Rodeo will be the featured half-time act. There will be more on the B.C. Lions disappointing season in the print edition of the Straight on November 26.

Having 250 000 ex-Saskies living in Calgary will give the Riders homefield advantage. It will be tought to beat Montreal, but the Riders don't give up easily!

Hi!

Hello Gillian!

I work for CBC News in Toronto. And I'm trying to track down "super fans" of the Grey Cup. I'd love to talk to you in you're interested. You or anyone else you know who loves football and can't wait for the game! Write back to this post as soon as you can and we'll do a phone interview, and eventually an actual live on-air interview.

Thanks,
Sana
