Sorcerers at the El Dorado Hotel
Officially speaking, East Van dub-punk kings the Sorcerers will be the main attraction this Friday (December 11) when the El Dorado Hotel on Kingsway hosts a three-band bill that includes the Furies. And that’s the way it should be, considering that the Sorcerers’ self-titled 2009 debut set a benchmark that few of their peers were able to match. Unofficially, what makes this showcase worth noting is the Vancouver debut of the Bonitos, which features a certain Billy Hopeless, who has traded in his Black Halo and teamed up with a band of like-minded reprobates, including ex–Crystal Pistol axeman Pinto. According to the group’s MySpace page, Hopeless’s reason for putting together the Bonitos was as follows: “There was no current band that i really felt I loved the way I loved my faveourite bands from the past. So I searched and gathered quickly together four true punk/rock and roll fans/musicians in hopes of once agin being part of and creating a band to be in love with.” Forgive his typos. The boy is obviously excited.
