Mrs. Dexter & Her Daily at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage

Four of the most prominent women in Canadian theatre are collaborating on Mrs. Dexter & Her Daily, a story about the relationship between a Rosedale matron and her Nova Scotian maid, Peggy Randall. Edith Dexter is selling her house—because her husband has left her for her former best friend—and that provides Peggy with an opportunity to retire. Will their friendship endure the end of their employment-based relationship? Playwright Joanna McClelland Glass (Canadian Gothic, American Modern, If We Are Women) is one of Canada’s most popular dramatists. Director Marti Maraden headed English theatre at the National Arts Centre for eight years. And you simply couldn’t find two bigger stars in this country than Fiona Reid (Edith) and Nicola Cavendish (Peggy). The Arts Club–NAC coproduction runs at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage from Wednesday (January 13) to February 7.

Saw the perfomance last night... wouldn't recommend it to the average guy... felt like I was sitting through two plus hours of my ex-wife bitching and moaning. When I pay $60 a head to see a play, I want to be entertained, I want to feel exhilerated; this play left me tired, woozy, sleepy and wondering why I didn't leave part way through the first act, like several people near me.
