Buffaloswans raising bucks for brass
Buffaloswans needs your help to put the finishing touches on its forthcoming album, The Body Electric. Apparently, a horn quintet is the last piece of the psych-pop puzzle, so the local outfit is throwing an extended party to help raise the dough to hire one.
“We’ve asked a very talented list of performers to help put on a fantastically fun fundraiser over two evenings,” Buffaloswans ringleader Scott Bell told the Straight of the charity event, which will be held at Café Deux Soleils next Friday and Saturday (January 29 and 30). “The record is crying out for the addition of brass,” he added. “We need the funds to orchestrate it properly.”
If you’re on the fence about attending the weekend benefit, which features a variety of local acts, including Jess Hill, the Rare Birds, Warless, and Jenny Ritter from Victoria’s the Gruff, take a listen to Buffaloswans’ self-titled debut from 2007. The disc’s luscious Americana and ’60s-throwback melodies will have you camped out in the Commercial Drive café both nights if it means you’ll get your hands on the group’s next installment that much sooner.
