Anti-Olympic graffiti at site of removed murals gets painted over

The anti-Olympic graffiti that sprang up after the city removed a series of murals in downtown Vancouver has itself been painted over.

When the Straight went by the concrete wall along Beatty Street this morning (January 20), all three instances of the stencil art were no longer visible.

Yesterday morning (January 19), the Straight found the Olympic rings and the text “With glowing hearts we kill the arts” in white paint partially obscured by a coat of what has been referred to as “Olympic blue”, but still discernible.

The wall between Dunsmuir and Georgia streets fringes the under-construction LiveCity Downtown site, which will be the location of the Canada Pavilion during next month’s Winter Games.

City workers painted over the murals that covered the wall with blue paint on December 23.

The murals were created in 2007 as part of a fundraiser for the Steve Nash Foundation.

The anti-Olympic stencil art appeared in early January.
