ACTRA Award of Excellence: Eugene Levy

Legendary Canadian funnyman Eugene Levy will be honoured for his contributions to Canada's film and TV industries with an ACTRA Award of Excellence on January 21, 2010 from the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists.

Levy will receive the award at an afternoon reception at the Canadian Residence of David Fransen, Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles.

The Hamilton, Ontario–born actor became first known for his work on the '70s Canadian sketch comedy series SCTV. He remains an active Second City Alumni and chair of Telefilm Canada Features Comedy Lab. He's also has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.

He has gone on to rack up over 90 acting credits in film and TV, in addition to writing and directing. He's starred in films such as Best in Show and A Mighty Wind (which he cowrote with Christopher Guest), American Pie, and Taking Woodstock.

He even won a Grammy Award for cowriting the title song  for A Mighty Wind.

Previous winners of the ACTRA Award of Excellence, which recognizes career achievements and contributions to the Canadian industry by members, include Sandra Oh, Leslie Nielsen, and Kiefer Sutherland.

Meanwhile, the 2010 ACTRA Awards, which will include awards for outstanding performance in male, female, and voice categories, will be held in Toronto on February 19.
