Dalmore 12-Year-Old is a handsome Highland malt

By Jurgen Gothe,

This is the dilemma: so many whiskies, so little cash. Especially when you get up into the middle-to-high end. It isn’t difficult to go resolutely overboard—yea unto five figures, if that’s your desire. There’s the Macallan Lalique III, LDB-priced at a cool $17,250. It would just be my luck to drop it in the parking lot. But we’re not doing that today; the accounting department has spoken. We’re doing the Dalmore 12-Year-Old ($69.99), a handsome Highland malt with a dark amber, edging-towards-mahogany hue, a heady treat for the palate: full, deep, balanced, and with a lively lilt all the way back and down. I know they say you need a drop of water to open it up, but I like a drop of Victoria Spirits’ Twisted & Bitter orange bitters with mine. Open wide and say ahhhh. And if you do end up buying the Lalique, let me know if it went down 17-grand-wise. And where your blue box will be.
