Vancouver mayor to proclaim Canada Snowboard Day in honour of Maelle Ricker

Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson is set to honour Maí«lle Ricker, the gold medalist in women’s snowboard cross, and her Olympic snowboarding teammates by proclaiming Wednesday (February 24) “Canada Snowboard Day” in the city.

Robertson will make the proclamation on Wednesday night at 9:15 p.m. at the LiveCity Yaletown celebration site at David Lam Park. Ricker and members of Canada’s Olympic snowboard team will join the mayor on stage.

On February 16, Ricker became the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic gold medal at home. She was also the first British Columbian and Metro Vancouver native to win gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Born in North Vancouver, Ricker was raised in West Vancouver and now resides in Squamish.
