A number of young actors in B.C. short films have snapped up nominations for the 31st annual Young Artist Awards.
The entire young cast of the short B.C. film "Trolls" by director Brianne Nord-Stewart were named best performance in a short film nominees.
In the amusing film, three children engage in an innocent and unintentionally hilarious conversation about what "doing it" actually means.
Jack Weatherbe and Dawson Dunbar were nominated for best young actor (in a short film), while Sierra Pitkin is up for best young actress (in a short film).
Two other Canadian shorts also garnered nominations.
Ricardo Hoyos was also nominated for a best young actor (short film category) award for Vancouver-born filmmaker Jamie Travis' "The Armoire". Travis' haunting film, about a young boy and the mysterious disappearance of his best friend, was selected for Canada's Top Ten, which will play at the Pacific Cinémathí¨que from March 2 to 6 and 10.
Ryan Grantham is another best young actor nominee, for his performance in Vancouver-based Matthew Gordon Long's "The Anachronism". The gorgeously shot science-fiction tale focuses on two children in the late 19th Century who discover a shipwrecked squid-shaped sea vehicle. The film won six 2009 Leo Awards, including best short drama.
Winners of the Young Artist Awards will be announced on April 11 in Studio City, California.
