William Shatner to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Banff 2010

Hot on the heels of William Shatner's appearance at the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremony in Vancouver, the Banff World Television Festival (June 13 to 16) announced that Shatner will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Banff World Television Awards in Banff, Alberta.

As he made it clear in his monologue at the Olympic closing ceremony, the Montreal-born actor, director, producer, screenwriter, recording artist, and author is Canadian, and is best known for his iconic  role as Captain James T. Kirk on the original TV series Star Trek.

He has also starred in the Star Trek movies, and on the  TV series T.J. Hooker and Boston Legal. He's also set to star in Shit My Dad Says, a CBS TV pilot based on the immensely popular Twitter account.

Shatner will present a master class at  the Banff festival  on June 15 to talk about his career, which has spanned more than half a century.

Also at Banff 2010, British  comedian, actor, director, and writer  Ricky Gervais will receive the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award.
