Oscar predictions seem to be everywhere right now, but it's looking like it'll be a fairly predictable race in most of the acting categories. (Check out the recommendations from the Straight's Ian Caddell.)
But it’ll be quite strange if Sandra Bullock simultaneously wins both the best actress Oscar Award and worst actress Razzies award. Her Oscar nomination, though, is for The Blind Side, while her Razzie nomination is for All About Steve. (She says she'll show up if she wins.)
The Razzies, or the Golden Raspberry Awards which highlight the worst in Hollywood filmmaking, take place tomorrow (Saturday, March 6), the night before the Oscars.
A number of singers were nominated, including Beyoncé (worst actress, Obsessed), Miley Cyrus (worst actress, Hannah Montana: The Movie), Billy Ray Cyrus (worst supporting actor, Hannah Montana: The Movie), and the Jonas Brothers (worst actor and worst screen couple, The Jonas Brothers 3-D Concert Experience).
The worst actress of the decade nominees are entirely made up of (dubious) pop star/actor crossovers. While Mariah Carey may have impressed the critics finally with her performance in Precious, she still garnered a nomination in this category for Glitter. There's also Paris Hilton (winner of 4 Razzies), Lindsay Lohan (3 Razzies), Jennifer Lopez (2 Razzies), and Madonna (4 Razzies).
Meanwhile, the Razzies aren’t the only film awards celebrating the worst in filmmaking. On the other side of the planet, the second annual Golden Kela Awards (kela means banana) are set to honour the worst in Bollywood cinema. It'll take place on March 12, hosted by MTV India.
But among the nominees, there are even some Hollywood names.
Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards, who appeared in the big budget stinker Kambakkht Ishq are nominated for the Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke Award, which means "Have you gone crazy?" (or perhaps a more trendy equivalent would be WTF?).
They're up against big names like Akshay Kumar (Chandni Chowk to China), Priyanka Chopra (What's Your Rashee), and even Shahrukh Khan (Billu).
"Chiggy Wiggy", the song that pop star Kylie Minogue sang in Blue, is up for the Most Atrocious Lyrics Award.
Titles with multiple nominations include Kambakkht Ishq, Chandni Chowk to China (the Indian-Chinese cross-cultural comedy fusion that left everyone with cinematic indigestion), Blue, Billu, New York, What's Your Rashee, Raaz 2, and Dil Bole Hadippa.
Even Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan are up for Worst Pair for Paa.
A list of special awards includes the Lajja Award for Worst Treatment of a Serious Issue, Dara Singh Award for Worst Accent, Black Award for Emotional Blackmail, Insensitivity Award, and the Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya Award (which means "Stop it, please—enough already").
What fun!
