Burnaby’s Susan Lambert elected president of B.C. Teachers’ Federation
Susan Lambert, a Burnaby teacher-librarian, has been elected the next president of the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation.
On July 1, Lambert will succeed current president Irene Lanzinger, who plans to go back to her job as a math and science teacher in Vancouver this September, according to the union.
“The year ahead will be a tough one, but teachers across the province will continue to use our collective strength to defend and advocate for public education,” Lambert told 700 delegates in her acceptance speech today (March 9) at the BCTF’s annual general meeting in Vancouver.
Along with two new vice presidents, Lambert, who currently serves as first vice president under Lanzinger, won her one-year term uncontested.
Jim Iker of Burns Lake is the union’s new first vice-president.
Glen Hansman of Vancouver will be the second vice-president.
Rick Guenther of Abbotsford, Denise Moffatt of Surrey, Kip Wood of Nanaimo, and David Komljenovic of Kamloops were elected to the union’s executive committee as members at large.
According to the BCTF’s Web site, the union represents 41,000 public-school teachers in the province.
