Six great YouTube questions for Prime Minister Stephen Harper

One of many questions submitted for Stephen Harper's YouTube interview.

On Tuesday (March 16) at 4 p.m. Pacific time, Stephen Harper will sit down for his first-ever YouTube interview.

Canada’s Conservative prime minister will take questions submitted by citizens through www.youtube.com/talkcanada.

People can vote on the questions, and the top-rated queries will get put to the PM.

At time of writing, 132,454 votes had been cast on 1,507 questions submitted by 4,421 people.

The deadline for submissions and voting is Sunday (March 14) at 10 a.m.

Here are six great examples of video questions that have been submitted from across Canada.

From Vancouver: "Why is the Canadian Government continuing to support the ACTA negotiations that Canadian citizens do not have access to but corporate interests such as Microsoft, the MPAA and the RIAA are able to obtain full disclosure?"

From Victoria: "You committed to creating more green, sustainable jobs for Canada. At the same time, your government is the first in 30 years that wants to allow oil tankers on BC's coast. How are these two positions consistent?"

From Victoria: "We are experiencing our warmest winter ever in BC. Climate change is obviously affecting the weather here in Canada. Is your government willing to take the strong measures necessary to adequately deal with climate change?"

From London, Ontario: "What benefit, if any, do you think the prohibition of marijuana, has for Canada. What is a reasonable punishment, if any, for the consumption of marijuana."

From London, Ontario: "Where were the Arts in your budget and throne speech?"

From Toronto: "Why do we still not have a national childcare plan?"

Harper will NOT answer any questions about marijuana because he knows he will look like Angry Dad. I bet he flatly ignores the issue entirely...

Prime Minister Steven Harper----Here's the real question
He felt what a Dream was but still doesn't understand it so the search
for Canada's Dream as a Nation continues.
Canada a "NATION THAT HEALS"- the meaning of our name and why many came to this nation- a place of peace.
MR. HARPER can you release a miracle? Can you endorse the UNIVERSAL PATIENT.
Choice Mr. Harper begins in the Comox Valley not you tube for political gain.

Will your government introduce legislation to protect pensioners from Bankruptcies, and out pensioners at the head of the line to collect their pensions. Banks, and other financial institutions do not need any protection, they can take care of themselves, but pensioners have no protection, and no recourse. Perhaps we will have to go and set up tents on Parliament Hill to bring this issue home to your government.

If Harper actually answers Phillips question I will be totally be shocked and will forever support the Conservative government. That video was so epic! Good work man, spread the word. If the Conservatives want to gain the support of young people and even those 40 years old and younger they should really support the legalization of this plant. It would go miles for the country, miles for their support and miles for everyone. We elect officials to do what is best for the people, so why not start now? Don't worry about upsetting the Americans, they don't have any power anymore they are finished. Do what is right for us! Be a forward thinker.. Make a change Mr. Harper I know you can do it!

In case the PM is considering making any moves to legalize marijuana I should first state my bias: I smoked pot once forty years ago. And while I didn’t inhale (any more than necessary) I still got a whopping dose of stomach upset and paranoia which put an end to my part in any thoughts of continued marijuana usage.

To borrow from the dated pot smoker lingo of my past, “Chill out man.”

Legalizing marijuana wouldn’t be the disaster most criminals fear. Their income would take a serious hit in the immediate short term, but the criminal mind is adaptable and resourceful. They will develop new markets and revenue streams.

The whole apparatus of law enforcement and the courts and prison infrastructures will not see cutbacks as drug dealers move en masse to new (to them anyway) criminal enterprise which we Canadians will need protecting from.

And other than the United States building a 7 metre high, 5,525 mile long wall to blockade Canada and the end of cross border trade between our two countries (water and oil of course excepted) the greatest danger will be a possible invasion of 14.6 ** million American marijuana users applying for refugee status. Even allowing for the attenuated achievement potential of the average heavy pot smoker, the stimulus effect to our economy will be far beyond any nightmare finance minister Flaherty might fall out of bed over.

Why does't Canada sign on to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and at least give thier residential school appology some substance?
