More than 180,000 YouTube viewers see Victoria police officer kick two men

Update (5:24 p.m.): The video has now received over 187,000 views on YouTube.

A video showing a Victoria police officer kicking two unarmed men outside a nightclub has now been seen by more than 92,000 people.

The video, which was posted on YouTube, has triggered an internal investigation by the Victoria Police Department. The Office of the Police Compliant Commissioner is monitoring the probe.

According to the Victoria Police Deparment, three officers saw a fight involving eight males around 12:30 a.m. on March 21. Police say one man was lying on the ground after allegedly being kicked in the head by a suspect.

"The officers intervened and deployed OC Spray in efforts to disperse the crowd which had little effect. The officers eventually wrestled six people into custody," the Victoria Police Department said in a news release.

The victim found lying on the ground was treated in hospital for a head injury, and is refusing to cooperate with police. No charges were laid.

Victoria's police chief, Jamie Graham, is a former chief of the Vancouver police and a former RCMP commander with the Surrey and North Vancouver detachments.

That cop, no sorry, coward in a cops uniform, needs to be removed from the force. There's no way spineless men like that would act this way out on there own, without the badge and other cops around. Friend, let's see you try hammering on others while out on your own in civilian clothes - you are the worst kind of candy-ass and for the dignity of the police force need to be removed!

Disgusting. I'd love to see the record of that cop in the yellow. He is supposed to be protecting us, not putting the boots and knees to people on the ground. He should be fired for that.

Again, Police are using
force exceeding legal limits but wanna bet nothing will be done for fear of reprisal.
Most policemen are brutes in disguise. Just give them an opportunity and you will see their dark side erupting.

It sure does not take much investigation to see what this police officer did to a person that was doing as he was told and already in cuffs. It is criminal that this officer has not yet been charged with assault with intent to maim. It seems the officer decided to invoke his own form of justice rather than use the courts...now he will hide behind the same justice system he chose to ignore...a coward for sure.

I'd like to see any of you try to detain a drunken mob without using force. 3 cops trying to arrest 8, come on. What do think they should have done, asked these drunks to arrest themselves!!! I don't see a detained guy on the ground, I see a guy trying to crawl away. Perhaps you would prefer the cops let them go!! "They were resisitinag arrest so we let them go free" I'm sure that would fly. The cop's job is to protect the public, that means protecting you and me. what would happen if one of these drunks pulled out a knife or a gun and started shooting into the crowd, then all you bleeding hearts would be complaining that the police didn't do enough. I'd rather have cops like this that don't take chances with the safety of the public by allowing drunks like this to roam around free.

Police have a very hard job, dealing constantly with the darker aspects of society, that I certainly don't envy. But no matter how maddening and frustrating their job is, they're trained professionals who (should) know how to deal with situations like this. That jock of a cop had NO excuse for his violent actions, against apparently unarmed drunks already on the ground. He needs to be let go from the force and to undergo counseling. CC: Do these cops look threatened? "Yeah, one was trying to crawl away"!!! They were not resisting arrest. They were asshole drunks whose behaviour is only perpetuated by a system that makes a mockery of law enforcement.

I see that my views are not so popular as indicated by my negative rating. I live in Victoria and over the last several years there have been many drunken brawls on the island that have ended with persons being killed (not by police) so what's better, having cops doing what ever is neccesary to stop a fight and detain those responsible, or letting the brawlers kill each other. The description above says several men were involved in this fight while at least one was kicking a man in the head while he was lying on the ground. What about him, does anyone care what his injuries are? What if he had died, would it change your views on how these men were treated. we're watching 57 seconds of what is obviosly a much longer event, we don't see the initial fight, we can't hear what's being said to the officers, and we can't see what's going on outside of the camera's view, but everyone's an arm chair judge. I can't go into down town Victoria because of the violence, the drunks peeing on buildings and drug dealing, what a great tourist attraction!!
