Becky’s New Car at the Granville Island Stage

Seattle playwright Steven Dietz has crafted a warmly funny ode to the midlife crisis in Becky’s New Car, about a woman whose ho-hum life revs up after she meets a dashing millionaire at the car dealership where she works. When it debuted at the Emerald City’s ACT Theatre in 2008, the Seattle Times called it “a satisfying comedy of modern manners” that “derives as much power from its humanity as its fine-tuned craftsmanship”. The veteran cast in the Arts Club Theatre’s rendition, which plays Wednesday (May 12) to June 5 at the Granville Island Stage, should be able to pull it off, led by Mom’s the Word?’s Deborah Williams, Corner Gas’s Cavan Cunningham, and B.C. icon Jackson Davies.
