Being Erica back for season three; new Gemini Awards for digital media

Fans of Being Erica will be glad to know Erica Strange will be back in the future.

CBC general manager Kirstine Stewart announced in Vancouver that the time-travel series, about a woman who has the opportunity to relive events in her past to change her present, has been renewed for a third season and will return as part of the CBC's fall lineup.

The CBC show is being aired in 38 countries, including the Disney-owned SOAPnet in the U.S.

The show's star, Erin Karpluk, won a best actress Gemini Award in 2009.

Speaking of the Geminis, the Academy of Cinema and Television has announced that the 25th Gemini Awards will include new digital media award categories.

The awards include best cross-platform project, in fiction, non-fiction, and children's and youth categories; and best original program or series produced for digital media, in both fiction and non-fiction categories.

A special award for outstanding technical achievement in digital media will also be awarded to recognize any exceptional device, method, or invention in the Canadian digital media industry.

Submissions for the digital media categories will be accepted until May 18.
