Twilight convention descends on Vancouver
California-based Creation Entertainment, best known for its popular Star Trek conventions, is bringing the Twilight fanfare to Canada for the first time.
Co-CEO Gary Berman said by phone from his Glendale, California, office that he thinks Vancouver fans share a special bond with the film.
“I know there were lots of star sightings when it [Twilight ] was filming up there,” he said. “We’re hoping for a similar kind of excitement with this weekend.”
Admission is $10 each day, and the event will feature exclusive footage, panel discussions, Twilight-themed parties, musical performances, and autograph and photo opportunities. Seven celebrity guests are slotted to make stage appearances throughout the weekend, including Peter Facinelli and Victoria’s Cameron Bright.
For attendees who are more interested in the vision behind the film, director Catherine Hardwicke will be in attendance alongside cast members. “You can really learn by listening to the director,” Berman said, encouraging aspiring filmmakers to take advantage of the opportunity to speak with her.
According to Berman, the convention attracts an audience that’s distinct from those who are fans of the films and books. “We’re finding they are a bit older,” he said. “There are lots of Twilight moms who can share the experience with their daughters, and we’re getting a lot more guys.”
