Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, offers access to what? Prince Andrew?

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Just when you thought Britain's Royal Family couldn't become even more of an embarrassment comes this story from the U.K.-based News of the World.

It has reported that Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, was caught in a newspaper sting offering access to her former husband, Prince Andrew, in return for cash.

How much cash? A half-million pounds.

Check out the World-War-Three-size headline here.

Why anyone would pay this much money to talk to Prince Andrew eludes me.

At the very least, tabloid superstar Rupert Murdoch and his henchmen have figured out a nifty way to shift public attention away from BP and its oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

On a more serious note, it raises a question when Canada will grow up, dump the Royal Family, and become a republic.

For the sake of politeness, perhaps we should wait for Queen Elizabeth to die first. After all, she's already had more than enough grief from her children and their spouses.

Nooo. Don't say that about dropping the royals. I want to see Charles' funny ears on a $5 bill.

Poor Duchess of York. Can the press just leave her alone. She is not the first to do that, nor will she be the last. Why are they always trying to make her look bad in the press? I really feel for her and her daughters and Prince Andrew. Do you think any of the Royal Family wanted that in the press? Just awful! The press should be sued for sending that out? For what purpose was that done!

how sadly pathetic is this?? I watched the video, and i am certain she was either drunk or on drugs - the price they pay for being Royals, I guess.. I agree, Charlie, the time has long past that the Royal family "rules the roost" anywhere. They can remain traditional figureheads, i suppose, but even GB needs to wise up. they are simply mere mortals fighting their own demons. Definitely not the kings, queens, princes and princesses or knights of the round table they once were.

Who is the "News of the World" anyway? To set anyone up in this manner, then publish it for the world to see is very very very low class, in my opinion.

Wow, am I actually agreeing with Commie Charlie Smith on something??

Yes, Canada sure needs to grow up and dump a foreign monarch as its head of state.

But please, Charlie - NO "Peoples" Republic of Canada, OK?

If a few members of your own family were assholes and worse, would you think it's fair for everyone to want to get rid of you and the other good ones? As for them being parasites, I recall a researcher or someone did the math and found that it costs no more than six pounds or so per year per person to support the family. Less than most spend on weed.

It's sad that Diana died and she is still alive...if only we can turn back time or change time, I would put her there.instead of Diana.

Wow, I'm loving this! Georgia Straight readers and the Monarchist League, in bed together.

Not sure I want to see the spawn of such an unholy union, though.

Oh wait, there are already many big-toothed, Wellington-wearing, Brit luvvin' ,"chuffed' poseurs over there in Qualicum Beach, on Judges Row. So that's what the issue of such a union would look like! Always hard to tell the horses from the horsees, with that set. Neigh!!! (Where is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog when we need him?).

But...Her Majesty's A Pretty Nice Girl and One Day I'm Gonna make Her Mine, Oh Yeah...

jude, never would I call for censorship, but that's some sick shit you're trying to sell there. Wishing one person dead over another is just about as fundamentally twisted as a human being can get. Grow TF up.
