Tom Petty finishes off a laidback night in Vancouver

After a surprisingly laidback set, which featured numerous new songs that nobody knew, Tom Petty closed off with the always welcome "Refugee"' then returned for an encore that included the so-so "You Wreck Me" and another song I didn't recognize. Don't ask me what happened to the 20 songs I like better than "Free Falling".

Georgia Straight music writer Steve Newton has been posting items of interest from tonight's (June 8) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert at GM Place in Vancouver. Check out the full review tomorrow at www.straight.com/music.

There was only two I didn't know; get more than just his greatest hits CD? The encore song you didn't know was Mystic Eyes.
