22nd Century eyes Band on the Run to India prize

By Adrian Mack,

Local band 22nd Century might be off to Mumbai’s Independence Rock XXV Festival in August. The group was one of the three finalists in Supernova.com’s Band on the Run to India competition on June 28. The final winner is announced on July 9.

But there are more important matters taking place tonight (July 8), when the three-piece joins Neo Tokyo and No Quarter at the Concert for a Cure benefit at Five Sixty (560 Seymour Street). Proceeds go to the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers.

“Cancer’s an evil,” bassist-vocalist Duane Chaos told the Straight. “It hits our music community here, and it’s time for the community to hit back.”

Aarrg! Unfortunately, the club had a renovation disaster and it blew cement dust all over. The event tonight is cancelled (club is not open from what we have been told by the organizer). It will be rescheduled. Apologies on behalf of the club and promoter.

Neo Tokyo, No Quarter and 22nd Century remain committed to performing to raise money for these causes.
