Street food vendors selected for new locations in Vancouver
It may soon be easier to grab some schnitzel, dim sum or freshly squeezed lemonade while on the go in Vancouver.
The city wants to bring nutritious and healthy eating options to 17 new locations through a street-vendor pilot program.
Following the submission of around 800 applications, the vendors who will participate were selected today (July 9) by lottery.
“The popularity of this is a clear indication that people want to see a wide range of food on our streets and they want the offerings to reflect the cuisine of our culturally diverse city,” Mayor Gregor Robertson said in a statement.
“Given the amount of interest we’ve had for this initial launch, we’ll definitely be looking at ways to expand food cart operations across Vancouver even more,” he said.
Vancouver Coastal Health will monitor the carts and operators are expected to manage their waste.

All kvetching aside, well done Vancouver city council, you have bought my vote with variety street food yeah! And I will cycle to it!
Nice to see fresh lemonade, but there should be a vendor with an assortment of fruits to juice as well. Maybe next year.
In any case, thank goodness this city council isn't so frigid and scared as most past councils have been.

and gets people sick, Coastal we'll be all over it saying I told you so!!
Thus screwing it up for anybody doing an excellent job. I tried for years to get pulled pork and ribs on the street and they sternly said we must protect the public!! only Prepackaged goods. My heart goes out to the hard working ones food business is a tough gig., But Vancouver people are not always the most openly acepting people you try to make yourselves out to be. 10 years of trying to make a buck in food has taught me that. why the fuck would you give a license to a lemonade stand. real diverse shit there !! I always have my stomach turn when i realize what a bunch of chickenshits run vancouver.
