Elvis Presley embalming tools on the auction block

This one is for all the Elvis Presley fans out there. Okay, maybe not all of you, or even most of you. Just the ones with a sick, morbid fascination with the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Specifically, freaks like the one who dropped a hefty chunk of change for a fist-sized hank of his hair last October.

On August 12, Chicago's Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will put tools used for Presley's autopsy and embalming on the auction block. According to a Reuters article, items up for grabs will include "rubber gloves, forceps, lip brushes, a comb and eye liner, needle injectors, an arterial tube and aneurysm hooks, all of which the auction house say were used only once."

Well, let's hope so. The instruments come from the collection of a senior embalmer at the Memphis Funeral Home who, no surprise, wishes to stay anonymous.

The items will be auctioned in two lots, which the auction house estimates will bring in upwards of US$6,000 and US$8,000 each.

The auction takes place just a few days before the 33rd anniversary of the entertainer's death, which occurred on August 16, 1977, when he was 42 years old.
