The Hood Internet at Fortune Sound Club

Okay, so the mashup thing got real old real fast a few years ago, but there are some people who get a pass because they’re so damn good at combining unlikely elements into surprisingly awesome new songs. Yes, we mean Girl Talk. But we also have a soft spot for the Hood Internet. After all, if not for the Chicago remix duo of Aaron Brink and Steve Reidell, how would we ever have known that R. Kelly’s “I’m a Flirt” and Broken Social Scene’s “7/4 (Shoreline)” were meant to be together? Or that the only thing T.I.’s “What You Know” was missing was the backing track from Fujiya & Miyagi’s “Transparent Things”? If you’ve guessed by now that the Hood Internet’s m.o. is to combine hip-hop and R & B hits with indie-rock favourites, you’re right, and you’d be well advised to be there when the pair of producers plays Fortune Sound Club tonight (July 29).
