Six food and dining events

Indian Addition
Fairview’s cheery Masala Chai Indian Snack Bar (1102 West Broadway) serves Indian street food such as jackfruit pakoras and chicken rolls ($2.25 to $2.75), plus the Bombay Legendary Sandwich (potato, beet, and garam masala on whole-wheat bread or naan), tandoori chicken, and a curried- egg-and-Cheddar sandwich ($4.95 to $5.95). The restaurant is an offshoot of Atithi (2445 Burrard Street).

Luau in Coal Harbour
Get your hula on this Friday (July 30) at the Vancouver Rowing Club (450 Stanley Park Drive). That’s where the Gatsby Social Club is holding “Mele Kai Ho: A Musical Ocean”, a luau complete with flaming torches, Polynesian entertainment, and a Hawaiian-shirt dress code. The event starts at 7 p.m.; tickets are available at the door or in advance for $40 (plus service charge) at www.wanttickets.com and include a welcome cocktail and dinner with choices such as roast pig, mahi-mahi, and huli huli chicken skewers.

Pizza Next to the Pier in Kits
Two side-by-side restaurants share an address—3132 West Broadway—plus owners and a kitchen. High-energy Panoli’s Pizzeria is strictly takeout and delivery, and specializes in Sicilian pan pizzas with toppings like roast chicken as well as double-meatball pies, wings, and ribs. Sibling Pier 3132 Grill & Oysterhouse (formerly the Crab Shack) is suave and sleek, and serves a variety of fresh oysters. Crab cakes, lobster curry, sablefish and chips, arctic char, pastas, beef tenderloin, and ribs ($15 to $23) round out the menu.

Have Fruit, Will Travel
While Vancouver’s new food venders will have the town buzzing this week, a mobile fruit stand has been quietly operating around Kitsilano since early July. With a cute, lemon-sorbet-coloured paint job, the vehicle looks like an old-fashioned milk truck and sells fresh fruits such as blueberries and cherries from the back. It’s run by Okanagan-based San Juan Family Farm. According to the truck’s co-owner, Ruth Suarez, the unit is licensed by the city to sell its products outside of the downtown area, but it doesn’t have a designated location. Because it must abide by street-parking regulations, it’s always on the move; to find it, see updates on San Juan Family Farm’s Facebook page.

Rest Stop in the Park
The next time you’re ambling through Stanley Park, stop by the Teahouse (7501 Stanley Park Drive) between 3 and 5 p.m. (until late September), and claim a seat on the oceanfront patio for a mid-summer happy hour. The deal? A flatbread pizza and an icy pint of Stanley Park 1987 Amber Ale are $10. Choices of pizza include smoked salmon, arugula, and capers; Italian sausage and olive peperonata; and Margherita.

Dinner and the Circus
For those heading out for an evening of Cirque du Soleil at Concord Place, nearby Lupo Restaurant (869 Hamilton Street) is offering an early-dining option. The pre-event prix fixe runs from 5 to 6:15 p.m. daily until August 31, with two courses for $28 and three for $37. Modern Italian mains include lamb shank osso buco, wild salmon, and wild mushroom taglierini; see luporestaurant.ca/.
