NPA’s Ian Robertson, Peter Ladner rule out Vancouver mayoral runs
Fresh from a summer vacation, Dunbar-based park board commissioner Ian Robertson has ruled himself out as potential Non-Partisan Association mayoral candidate in November 2011.
“The timing’s got to be right, and for me the timing is not right,” Robertson told the Straight by phone.
In May 2009, the Straight speculated that Robertson’s rallying cry to have sailboats removed from Jericho Beach may have been a way to boost his image long-term for a possible run in 2011.
Not so, according to Robertson, who said he’s not in the running right now.
“I have a great job that I like, and at this point in time it’s not something that I would consider,” said Robertson, who’s director of sales at Rocky Mountaineer. “I think what the NPA has to do is to find the very best candidate that we can. At this point in time I am not aware of anyone...the only people I am aware of are the people I have heard speculated in the media.”
Robertson said he has heard 2008 NPA council candidate Michael Geller’s name being floated alongside that of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. CEO Tung Chan, and the NPA’s sole surviving city councillor, Suzanne Anton.
Former two-term NPA city councillor and losing 2008 NPA mayoral candidate Peter Ladner also gave the Straight a flat “No.”
“I’m not planning on it,” Ladner said by phone.
Robertson said the NPA has a pub night scheduled for Wednesday (August 26) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Five Point Pub at 3124 Main Street. The party’s fundraising dinner is scheduled for the third week of October, he added.

I've sent the kids out for snacks and pop -- can't wait.
I can't say I envy whoever that is.
