Geek of the Week: Farm Rescue

    1 of 1 2 of 1

FarmVille, the most popular game on Facebook, depicts the pastoral paradise many of us imagine is responsible for the food on our plates. You won’t find any battery cages, feedlots, or slaughterhouses there.

Farm Rescue, on the other hand, offers up a parody of such farm-simulation titles.

In this Facebook game created by animal-rights advocate Mark Middleton, you rescue chickens from factory farms, help them regain their health, and send them to good homes. To earn the cash to run your chicken sanctuary, you take the game’s quiz, designed to educate players about the conditions on chicken farms.

It’s not as fun as FarmVille, but then again, neither is the reality of our food system.
