Vancouver police buy $350,000 armoured vehicle
Vancouver police have added an armoured rescue vehicle with a price tag of around $350,000 to the fleet.
According a statement today (September 7) from the department, the 16-tonne, 285-horsepower vehicle will provide an extra level protection for police officers and citizens who face a variety of “high-risk” situations.
The armoured vehicle will be useful when arresting heavily armed suspects, transporting people from harm’s way, or navigating damaged roads during a natural disaster, police say.
The Vancouver Police Foundation raised more than $250,000 toward the cost while the city is paying for the rest.
