NPA councillor Suzanne Anton questions mayor's contracts

NPA councillor Suzanne Anton has issued a news release saying she'll ask council to review Mayor Gregor Robertson's office's contracts with FD Element.

FD Element has contracted work in the past to pro-Vision Vancouver blogger Jonathan Ross, who routinely tees off on Vision critics.

When Ross launched his blog, most people who pay attention to council could tell that it was created to counter the citycaucus.com blog run by two former aides to ex-NPA mayor Sam Sullivan.

Ross's blog isn't nearly as effective as citycaucus.com in gaining traction with the mainstream media, primarily because it doesn't break many news stories.

In addition, Ross's style of political discourse rubs some people the wrong way, which likely undermines support for Vision Vancouver.

On the whole, Anton should be glad that this is the best that that her opponents can do in response to citycaucus.com. If Vision came up with a truly effective blog, it could cause a lot more damage than what Ross is producing.

Jonathan Ross is just picking up where Kevin Quinlan (aka, Vancouver Kid) left off after Vision was elected. This has been going on for years, it's nothing new. However, if Vision is using tax money to pay for these political attack sites, they should have to face the consequences.

And today, we see how our mayor now prefers Chinese one-party rule over the process of Western Democracy.

"“You can be critical of lots of regimes around the world and you can question how worthwhile democracy is in a lot of countries right now which frankly are ignoring the biggest crisis in the history of our species with climate,” said Mr. Robertson. A former Green Party member and organic-juice-company CEO, he has been on a 12-day tour and trade mission to promote Vancouver’s green businesses to Chinese officials. “That’s where you see the Chinese government taking radical, dramatic action in investing in turning the ship around and you don’t see that in Western governments right now, democratically elected, because they’re afraid.”"
