Alice Cooper finally gets nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Alice Cooper released a string of amazing albums in the early '70s—including Love It to the Death, School's Out, Killer, and Billion Dollar Babies—but the brainiacs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame waited until today to nominate the shock-rock king for inclusion in their fancy pants institution.

Could that mean they're finally almost ready to let Rush in as well?

      We can only hope.

Other nominees include the Ear of Newt-approved J. Geils Band, the always entertaining Tom Waits, and funky mojo master Dr. John, plus a bunch of people we don't care about like Bon Jovi, Chic, and Donna Summer. The top vote-getters will be announced in December, and formally inducted on March 14, 2011 at the posh Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Artists must have released their first single in 1985 or earlier to be eligible in 2011, which means the Coop has been eligible for more than 15 years. "I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be calling me," he said back in 2002. "I think I'm being blackballed. But it's great to be the Pete Rose of rock and roll."

As well as taping his internationally syndicated radio show, Nights with Alice Cooper, the King of Nasty Rock has been working with producer Bob Ezrin on a "shreikquel", as he calls it, to his 1975 album, Welcome to My Nightmare. It will be interesting to see if the fabled Cooper/Ezrin combo can reclaim that magic it had way back when, but judging by the mediocrity of Cooper's last ten or so albums, I wouldn't be expecting another Killer.

      Sure would be nice though.

They should induct the whole Band. They all contributed to the material, and they were huge in their day. They were true pioneers of rock in the early 70's.

The original Alice Cooper band (Alice Cooper, Dennis Dunaway, Glen Buxton, Neal Smith and Michael Bruce) are being nominated for induction.
It's about time that one of the most original and influential hard rock bands of all time is being recognized for what they did!

that's great news, Ingo. they were the type of kickass guitar band, with interesting licks galore, that you don't see around much anymore

Its incredible that Alice Cooper (the band) have been overlooked for so long. Very underated band, great songwriting, introducing real showbiz to the rock world whilst producing rock music that remains as fresh and original today as it was in the seventies.
