Vancouver independent bookstore Sitka to hold grand opening this weekend

Vancouver’s newest independent bookstore will hold its grand opening on Saturday (October 2).

Sitka Books & Art (2025 West 4th Avenue) opened its doors on September 18.

Its manager and co-owner is Ria Bleumer, who managed Duthie Books for 16 years until the Kitsilano institution’s closure earlier this year.

Bleumer told the Straight in July that Sitka is paying around $10,000 a month less in rent than Duthie’s was before it shut down.

In addition to books, the store sells local arts and crafts produced by members of the Craft Council of British Columbia.

According to a press release, the grand opening celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature door prizes, snacks, and an opportunity to meet the staff.
