Six food and dining events

24-hour Nosh-O-Rama
Looking for round-the-clock breakfast? Try just-opened Lucy’s Eastside Diner (2708 Main Street). This snug retro café—complete with counter stools and cozy booths—serves breakfast 24/7. Six dollars gets you two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and toast, while breakfast burritos and eggs with biscuits, gravy, and sausage run $7 to $10. There’s also a $10 burger-fries-milk shake combo as well as mac ’n’ cheese, Lucy’s mom’s meat loaf, fried chicken, and more ($6 to $8.50).

Yaletown Lounges Down
Just-opened Fiasco (1168 Hamilton Street) stands out from the sleek Yaletown crowd with its unvarnished, pub-style atmosphere. The brick-walled restaurant in the old Amacord space has a lounge-y feel, with low lights and live music on weekends. The Italian menu features meat and cheese boards ($12) for nibbling, pastas like house-made lasagna ($23), and pizzas such as one with smoked salmon and crí¨me fraí®che ($15).

Izakaya For All
Newbie izakaya Suika (1626 West Broadway), sib to Denman Street’s popular Kingyo, sets the scene with dark wood walls and a sake-bottle chandelier. Opt for a communal table and see what your tablemates are scoffing. On offer are stone-grilled kakuni bibimbap (pork belly cooked with rice in a stone bowl); pork-feet skewers; a “sushi party” with nori, slices of raw fish, rice, and the like for do-it-yourself cones; and more ($5 to $10).

Stella's Thinks Belgian
While the ownership, décor, and menu concept will stay the same, Stella’s Tap and Tapas Bar (1191 Commercial Drive) and Stella’s Bierstro (3305 Cambie Street) are getting a name change. Their signs will now read BierCraft Tap and Tapas Bar and BierCraft Bistro to reflect an increased emphasis on Belgian beer. The brand relaunches next Wednesday and Thursday (October 20 and 21) with $3 pints of Carlsberg on offer. Favourites such as moules frites ($14 to $15 per pound) will remain on the menu. See www.biercraft.com

Let The Chocolate Flow
Friday (October 15) marks the start of the West Coast Chocolate Festival. A series of workshops, tastings, and dinners will run around Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley until November 10. These include the opening-night sampling event ($60) at Vistas in the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside (1133 West Hastings Street), a Prosecco and Italian-chocolate brunch ($45) at Beyond Restaurant (1015 Burrard Street) on October 24, and various chocolate high teas ($35) at Schokolade Café (2263 East Hastings Street).

Slow and Tasty Italiano
Kick off your weekend with the A Slow Taste of Italy on Saturday (October 16) at Campagnolo (1020 Main Street) and join a North America–wide celebration of Italy’s Slow Food Movement. Campagnolo’s family-style lunch is based on recipes from Jessica Theroux’s Cooking With Italian Grandmothers: Recipes and Stories from Tuscany to Sicily (Welcome Books, $47). Cost is $98 per person and includes lunch, wine, and the book, or $148 per couple with one book. Reserve at 604-484-6018.
