Other nominees included Bowen herself; Julia Ivanova, director of Love Translated; Sara McIntyre, director of Two Indians Talking; and Helen Slinger, director of When the Devil Knocks.

The nominees were previously announced on October 5. The award was chosen by a jury consisting of BC Film business analyst Janine Steele Bizzocchi, Mystique Films writer/director Mary Bissell, and La Sirena Pictures writer-director Mary M. Frymire.

The award is presented to a B.C. performer or filmmaker whose work appears at the Vancouver International Film Festival. It will be presented to Telek on Friday, October 15 at the VIFF closing gala screening.
