B.C. Liberal MLA Ida Chong adds cabinet portfolio as recall campaign moves forward

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Ida Chong has replaced Moira Stilwell as B.C.'s minister of regional economic and skills development.

Chong, the B.C. Liberal MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head, will continue to serve as minister of science and universities.

News of the appointment comes the same day that anti-HST campaigners launched their first recall effort, which targets Chong.

Fight HST says that, if its recall application is approved by Elections B.C., canvassers will need to gather 18,000 signatures to unseat the MLA.

Stilwell resigned her post to seek the leadership of the B.C. Liberal Party.

Seems odd to appoint someone to another cabinet position for 59 days!

BC Liberals are gambling heavily - early. If Chong goes down to Recall -after the BC Liberals add another crown to her head - we will have what is known in Literature as ----foreshadowing.

Sianara Ida Chong. No more free meals for you. I cant wait to see your name as the first MLA in the country to ever get recalled. What a failure you are. Just a total Failure. :)

Enjoy while you can Ida. You better move out of the way. Turn around, there's a BC Rail Locomotive pulling 18 HST cars and a BC Hydro caboose coming at you!

Or perhaps Campbell, as self-destructive as he is, wants the rest of his cabinet following in his footprints.

Why did it take BC residents so long to discover that the Emperor Had No Clothes?

What's this going to do for her I wonder? Add more money to her pension when she's turffed out after the recall.

Adding two crowns is an attempt at first line of defence affirming Ted's statement. If it appears that the Chongster is doomed, then the new leader chosen February 26, 2011 can leave her out of Cabinet.

As it appears, if Recall goes the entire 60 days runs until January 21, 2011---- Elections BC can hold off its decision until March 3 or 4th, (or watch for some other 'slight delay") 2011 sufficient time for the new BC Liberal premier to announce a new Cabinet - and if it appears Chong's a gonner - than out of Cabinet she goes. This gaming out -- would make this decision to double bag Chong with crownage - appear unwise - IF Recall only takes 4-6 weeks (the presumption that the signatures are in place). This would put Election BC's decision around February 14, 2011 or more than a week before the leadership decision and selection of new BC Liberal premier.

If this happens - then 'ds' implications must come into calculation - or Campbell is not very bright--because a lost Recall in front of leadership is a disaster - big D disaster for the BC Liberals - particularly if she is Recalled in 4-6 weeks not the 8.6 weeks allotted.

I don't see how the extra ministry crown helps Ida --- unless Recall is very close, and that isn't a conservative gamble in my view.
