Red Letters at the Roundhouse

Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre (better known as VACT) brings to life a moving historical tale that touches on the dreaded head tax in Red Letters, a new musical by Alan Bau and Kathy Leung. In it, the modern-day Ping discovers the love letters sent by his parents to one another in the 1920s, when his father travelled to Vancouver from China to start a new life but struggled to earn the money to pay for his wife and baby son to follow him. The ambitious show, which comes to you care of the folks who mounted last year’s much-lauded Flower Drum Song, runs tonight (November 25) to December 4 at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre, then December 29 to January 8 at Richmond’s Gateway Theatre Studio.
