Nicholas Simons plans to become the first New Democrat caucus member to throw his hat into the race to replace Carole James.
Simons, the MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast and one of the baker's dozen of caucus dissidents, is slated to officially announce on Wednesday (January 5) that he's running for the leadership of the B.C. New Democratic Party.
Today (January 4), Simons dropped by the Georgia Straight offices to talk with editor Charlie Smith about his leadership bid.

Great choice for leader of the BC NDP and I look forward to seeing Nicholas Simons as Premier of BC as soon as we can get rid of the Liberal Party .. Nicholas is a great voice for progressive political change for BC.

Not nany New Democrats can talk for 15 minutes about leadership without mentioning health, education or poverty. Way to go Nicholas.

The ability to make a decision -and act upon it- is a crucial leadership component. The others, like the excellent Adrian Dix dont appear to have it.Sometimes you can spend time counting your chickens only to find you have left the door open and they have flown the coop by the time you are finished..
