RCMP announces warrant issued for arrest of white supremacist Craig Cobb

White supremacist Craig Cobb (seen on his Podblanc website last March) is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, but his Facebook profile says he's living in Kalispell, Montana.

By Charlie Smith,

White supremacist Craig Cobb, formerly a resident of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, has been charged with a hate crime and is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

The RCMP stated that he was arrested at the Vancouver Public Library in June and was charged on December 30 in connection with a website he operated.

In March 2010, the Georgia Straight reported that Cobb was videotaping people at an antiracist rally at the Braid SkyTrain station on March 21.

After the article appeared, the Straight called the RCMP hate-crime team for comment, but the call was never returned.

The Southern Poverty Law Centre's director of research, Heidi Beirich, told the Straight in March that Cobb is a "hard-core white supremacist" who runs "one of the nastiest hate sites on the Web, hands down”.

On his Facebook profile, Cobb lists his residence as Kalispell, Montana.

A Montana television newscast reported that Cobb moved to the Flathead Valley in the northwest part of the state in July, which, if true, would have followed his arrest by the RCMP in Vancouver.

This is the problem.

While you might strongly disagree with his opinion, and his opinion might be bad bad bad, and you might find it vicerally distasteful .. nevertheless, it's his opinion and he is welcome to it. The truth is enought to take care of these nimrods.

IMHO by hunting him for his opinion puts us (society) in the wrong and him in the right.

Long Live Freedom. God Bless Sophie Scholl.

The RCMP does not issue warrants, the courts do.

Leave Craig Cobb alone - stop harassing and hating on him, he committed no crime.

Be clear these haters and their words of hate incite people to take hateful actions. Freedom of speech does not mean speakers have the right to attack and work to undermind the democratic rights of others.
If he just spoke that would be one thing.

I agree the RCMP need to find better things to do with their time than waste taxpayers money going after a person because he utter words not likable to the government. When free ends, tyranny begins !

Free speech does mean people have the right to voice their social/religious/polictical/personal opinions even if the rest of society completely disagrees. That's why it is called *free* speech.

Unless he took aim at specific individuals and did slander or libel he is entitled to his opinions.

What you are proposing is to make the gov't the arbiter of truth -- and you can see that the gov't is very willing to take up this role evidenced by the issued warrant against this man for his opinion. It will just get worse and worse too.

"Be clear these haters and their words of hate incite people to take hateful actions."

The only thing that needs to be added here is that TRUTH is HATE to people who HATE the TRUTH.

And an important part of democracy means doing what one wishes without hurting others. Hate and racism and websites that promote hatared towards, black people and Jewish people hurts these people and does incite people to take violent actions against them.
Freedom of speech in your world would mean Nazis and Klaners, and child molesters and pronographers should be free to spread their sick messages whereever they wish. The rights of black peopel and Jews meaning their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would be denied by these haters. Free does not mean doing whatever you want or saying what you want if it hurts others and incites violence against others.
Hate speak is violence and hate speech often leads to violence and must be stopped at all costs. Those of us who believe in the rights of men and women must do everything we can to stop these racist from enjoying our freedoms as long as they advocate denying the same rights to black people and Jews..

Free speech would mean that all 18+ adults can say or print their opinion on any topic any time and those opinions etc. are available to any 18+ adult anywhere anytime.

The "would incite" argument I do not buy. Why? For more than one reason.

1. It's dubious that any particular peice is going to incite anything.
2. The go'vt then has to become the arbirer of truth.
3. THe gov't is easily swayed by populism.
4. It forces thought into the the underground where it can fester without anyone know that it's there.
5.The censoship process is open to abuse.
5. It goes beyond censorship where people are arrested for thought and opinion crimes .. and that process is abusive to begin with and is open to further abuse.
7. Populism becomes the order of the day.
8. Criticism and questioning and disagreement get outlawed and persecuted.
9. There are already laws against inciting riots and they are more than sufficient to handle any emergency.
10. You have no right to censor my speech or text that I publish on my own.

A few nutbars out in the open are seen for what they are .. no fear.

In fact hate filled blogs and websites and hate speech doinfluence people to act in a hateful and violent manner. Hate speech cannot be tolerated by a civilized society. In my more than 20 years as an educator I have seen hate speech go from that to bullying for example.
I do not see why anyone would wish to condone or allow haters to say whatvever they want. I myself have had the experience where a hater made comments about brown and black people, on the street one week and the next week I was threatened with death because of my colour.
You folks may not like it but putting cross hairs on anyone's picture influences actions and often violence. I truly wonder if any of you folks have been the target of hate speech, bullying and violence.
We need to track those who make hateful speeches, websites and blogs as these people are often the ones who take violent action.
They need to be stopped their hate manifests into violence.
Freedom means doing what you wish without harming others.

You provide anecdotal evidence as the basis to ban free speech. It is awful that someone made a death threat to you because of your colour.

To be honest I think people just use whatever they think will hurt. I've had death threats too .. they are often are delivered alon with some sort of insult.

Anyway, either way, it is not enough reason to make the gov't the arbiture of truth. I think you are talking about personal events i.e. students bullying others because of online teasing or gossip etc. usually contrary to the websites terms of use.

But to make the government the arbiture of truth ? Germany made the gov't the arbiture of truth in the early 1930s. Within five years there were death camps. Other wonderful places where the gov't decides what the truth is include: N. Korea, Vietnam, China, Saudi Arabia, Libya and so on. All oppressive regimes do it with censorship. Why do you want the same here?
