Anthropologie set for Spring 2011 launch on South Granville

Urban Outfitters' more sophisticated older sister, Anthropologie, is scheduled to make its Vancouver debut this spring. Rumors had been swirling as early as 2008 on a Canadian launch, and West Coasters got even antsier when a store opened in Toronto in 2009.

Now, job postings for Vancouver store employees on both Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters' corporate websites confirm that a store is finally slated to open. The Vancouver store is scheduled to occupy the retail space at 2912 Granville Street; the space's previous tenants included Urban Planet and Club Monaco spinoff Caban.

"They have a lease and they are advertising for employees," Sharon Townsend, executive director of the South Granville Business Improvement Association confirmed to the Straight. "We are very pleased to have them joining our neighbourhood."

Anthropologie's bi-coastal, dreamy, feminine aesthetic will fit in with neighbouring womenswear retailers on the South Granville strip. With a large array of dresses, knits, outerwear, denim, and intimates, as well as an accessories department that includes shoes, bags, and jewellery, Anthropologie carries items that are as wearable to the office as they are on weekends. Throw in a covet-worthy home décor department, and Vancouverites are set to live a stylishly anthropological life.
