Jonathan Fluevog funds Vogville’s Day and Night music festival

He says he was going to call it Vogville’s First Annual Non Profitable Festival, but Jonathan Fluevog thought better of it in the end. “I was so close to doing it, but I thought, ”˜That represents me, not the bands,’ ” Fluevog told the Straight. “ ”˜I need to be mindful of everybody.’ ” And so, Vogville’s Day and Night Festival was born: a 12-band extravaganza that the Vogville Recording owner sees as a community event more than anything else. “I’m putting in way more than I’ll ever see back,” he said. “That’s what it’s about.”

Los Furios, TV Heart Attack, City of Glass, and the Light Machines are among the bands taking part. As for Vogville. Fluevog is happy to bring the low-key Port Coquitlam studio out of the cold a little. “Vogville has always been the studio on everyone’s periphery,” he said. “It’s not the Warehouse. But people that know about Vogville love Vogville.

Significantly, he’s staging Saturday’s (February 19) event at a similarly under-recognized venue. Who hasn’t driven past the Hansel and Gretel–like Alpen Club (4875 Victoria Drive) and wondered, “What the hell goes on in there?” “I love that place,” Fluevog said. “It’s a great venue. People think it’s just old German dudes drinking beer.”
