Jaykin lends his voice to S.I.N.G. 4 Japan

“Vancity’s nicest” Jaykin was hit harder than most by the recent events in Japan, as the MC lived there for just over a year, until 2009. So when Grammy-award winner Chin Injeti asked the rapper to take part in the recording of “Won’t Shake Us Down”, Jaykin had his part written and recorded within 24 hours. He joins Sophia Danai, Omar Khan, and Wataru Uno on the awareness-raising effort, which is going under the name S.I.N.G. 4 Japan.

“I got the phone call,” Jaykin told the Straight, “and two hours later they said, ”˜Come to the studio!’ It happened so quickly, but the vibe was there in the studio. It was a lot of pressure, but I recorded it, and it was dope.”

Jaykin said that his part really comes down to “a personal letter to my friends who are going through a rough time. But it’s also for everyone.”
