Dana Larsen talks voting, political participation at Vancouver's 420 marijuana rally
Marijuana activist Dana Larsen addressed an enthusiastic crowd outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on April 20. In his speech, he talked about the importance of events like the annual 420 rally, the ongoing fight for marijuana legalization, and why individuals should vote in the federal election on May 2.
"In the late '70s, people thought marijuana was going to be legalized any day now," Larsen told the 15,000 attendees. "Well, more Canadians are in jail now than ever before in our country's history."
"If you want to see dispensaries shut down—if you want to see more Canadians joining Marc Emery in American prison—then don't vote."
This year's event was the first without Emery in attendance. He is currently serving a five-year federal prison term in the United States for selling marijuana seeds over the Internet.
