RvBCanWest 2011 to draw machinima fans to Vancouver

Fans of machinima, the craft of making films and videos using game consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, should consider dropping by the Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour Street) at noon on Sunday (May 1) to catch RvBCanWest 2011. Organizers will be screening episodes of Red vs. Blue and other machinima productions. Xbox Live director of policy and enforcement Stephen “Stepto” Toulouse will deliver the keynote address. There will also be panel discussions with Jessica Shea and Alison Stroll of 343 Industries, the Microsoft division responsible for the Halo franchise; Kathleen Zuelch, who voices the character of Tex for Red vs. Blue; and Luke McKay and Nico Audy-Rowland of Rooster Teeth Productions. Proceeds from a silent auction—a signed collector’s edition of Hothead Games’ On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness and an Alan Wake flashlight are among the items—will go to Child’s Play, a charity that donates toys and games to children in hospitals. Tickets are $30 and available at the door or at the RvBCanWest 2011 website.
