Barack Obama roasts Donald Trump at the White House correspondents dinner

President Barack Obama is riding a wave of renewed popularity today, what with all the adoring crowds parked outside the White House celebrating the death of Osama bin Laden at the hands of U.S. forces.

But I reckon Obama's popularity would have surged anyhow, given his merciless roasting of Donald Trump at the 2011 White House correspondents dinner which took place Saturday night.

I've always thought that, had his political career not panned out, Obama could have make a good living as a stand-up comedian.

Lest you think he’s only funny with a script, check out his off-the-cuff remarks during the 2008 race for the Democratic ticket, in which he discusses whether Bill Clinton was the first black president:

It's his air of unperturbed nonchalance that makes him funny. I recently watched a clip of him where the presidential seal fell off the front of the podium while he was speaking. His response is priceless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEDgkPG-edk

I've always seen him as a humorous president (when the situation calls for it) and a great speaker. I'm glad to see him playing this side up, especially at such a rough time for the country. He knows how to play it light, but should never be underestimated when the chips fall. Anyways, this whole Trump thing is getting ridiculous, and I'm glad to see him respond this way. Trump should never been seen as a serious candidate, but he makes for a good source of laughs.
