Nathan Holiday unveils the Rainbow Bomb Bandit
Nathan Holiday—aka Aleh Kaheen, leader of Vancouver sonic terrorists Tunnel Canary—will perform a short improvisation on modified electric guitar at his upcoming solo art show at Blim (115 East Pender Street) on Friday (May 6) as the newest installment of his series Fab-Dizzy-R-Us.
The series is “about contemporary dizziness”, Holiday told the Straight. “We’re all spun out with illusions and distractions and all this consumption, and most of us are not ”˜here now’.”
Holiday will be unveiling a car that he has covered entirely in fridge magnets, called the Rainbow Bomb Bandit, after a phrase used by composer Charles Amirkhanian. “The magnets are fairly strong, but they don’t stay down there, so I’ve got this stuff called Marine Goop, and I’m gluing them on one by one. It’s kind of toxic, and I’m gooped out every night. But the car—it’s a Japanese S-Cargo—looks like one big Easter egg now!”
Various pieces of Holiday’s vintage punk sculpture using spit, zippers, and safety pins will also be on display, discussed at greater length in webisodes for Susanne Tabata’s Bloodied But Unbowed, at The Punk Movie website.
