NDP form letters are coming fast and furious

Because I've signed up for NDP alerts, my in-box has been filling up with messages from the party, sometimes at weird hours of the night.

I wonder if the spin doctors are feeling bleary-eyed now that they're fighting a by-election against Premier Christy Clark right after a federal campaign.

The e-mail below, supposedly from NDP Leader Adrian Dix, didn't list a name after the word "Dear", which made it appear like a blatantly impersonal pitch for money.

Another sign of fatigue? It included an unnecessary question mark after the name "Jagrup Brar". (A different NDP form letter from NDP MLA Jagrup Brar, arrived in my in-box yesterday.)

      Dear

I’ve been busy working on electing more NDP MPs to Ottawa. Did you see Jasbir Sandhu, Jinny Sims and Randall Garrison are all newly elected Members of Parliament?

Now our whole party is working to send a message to Christy Clark in Vancouver-Point Grey. I hope you had a chance to respond to this email from Jagrup Brar?

You probably remember how we all pulled together to get Jagrup elected in 2004.

If you haven’t already – please do me a favour and go online, right now, to make a donation.

      -Adrian

As an NDP member, one of the things I hoped that would change from the Carole James era was every piece of information coming from the party being tied to a fundraising appeal. The party would be better off with a small tagline reminding people of the 75% tax credit rather than giving the impression that New Democrats are perpetualy cap in hand.

No party in Canada has the individual fundraising base the Conservatives do, and that has been true for over twenty years. Arguably, it's the fundamental reason for the third place finish of the Liberals.

You got money, keep it away from politicians and political party. The Liberals can raise from their business buddies, and NDP from unions like BCGEU, CUPE etc. so don't worry. Also, if the NDP can pay some dirtbag like Moe, the party is not broke. Dave Eby is a lawyer, he's better off than 90% of us. Just ask yourself, if you have money trouble, can you count on either party, answer is NO, so start saving for yourself.

When a party shows that they have a chance at having any influence over anything, the dollars start rolling in. Corporations will even buy into such blatantly anti-corporate parties as the NDP, hoping to have an open door after an election.

What does that tell you about a party who's perpetually pan-handling?

?David Eby has been a strong advocate for the disadvantaged and for underrepresented voices in Vancouver,? Gregory said ?I know he will put his full time and energy into representing Vancouver-Point Grey?

Political campaigns run on money and money sources influence politicians, sometimes disproportionately. For this reason the law should prohibit donations by unions and corporations.
