Tiger Mother parenting style gets boost in stupid economic study

The Tiger Mother fad just won’t die. Just when you thought the hype over Yale prof Amy Chua’s controversial bestseller, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother—which detailed the strict upbringing she gave her two daughters—was over, a study comes out claiming “statistics back up that stereotype [of the of Asian academic success]”.

According to an article in Science Daily, Valerie Ramey, a professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego, found that “Asian high-school students spend significantly more time studying and doing homework”¦than any other ethnic or racial group. Averaged over the entire year (including summer vacations), the average, non-Hispanic white student spends 5.5 hours per week studying and doing homework, while Hispanic and non-Hispanic black students spend even less. In contrast, the average Asian student spends a whopping 13 hours per week.”

Okay, can we get another professor somewhere to explain exactly what the point of these racially tinged studies is before I go all Jewish Mother on someone’s ass? (I won’t deprive you of sleepovers, but I will make you feel guilty about EVERYTHING.)

What credentials does Tiger Mom have? Literally none! Her 2 kids are still too young to be "proven". Why does all the media listen to her? What a hoot!

They listen to her because people realize things are going pear shaped, they don't know WHY or HOW but they know it's happening and anybody who can give them a hint on how to fix it will be followed.

Add to this that there is a "Chinese Scare" especially in the US and Canada's West Coast and you can see why she has such a success.

What credentials does she have? The internet is a wonderful thing. Let's take it for a ride and see if we can together discover the mysterious answer to your question.

"Congrats, Tiger Mom! [Your] daughter['s] accepted to Harvard "... and "A piano prodigy, [her daughter] made her Carnegie Hall debut at 14." ...

A stupid study indeed. Does studying for thirteen hours increase creativity or empathy? Maybe that's what this world needs more of, not status obsessed, money driven robots.
By the by, if Samuel Huntington is anything to go by, I'd prefer if my (future) offspring actually avoid Harvard.
