Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger in court over alimony as ex seeks $100,000 per month

Vancouver rockstar Chad Kroeger is being challenged in court by his former girlfriend who is seeking alimony payments of around $100,000 per month.

Kroeger, the 38-year-old Nickelback frontman, was in a common-law relationship with Marianna Goriuk for almost seven years before they split up and she moved out in late 2009.

Since then, Kroeger, who says he earns around $9.7 million per year, has been paying Goriuk $10,000 a month in interim spousal support.

Goriuk, a 40-year-old horse trainer who earns around $12,000 per year, met Kroeger in January 2002 when his band performed in Edmonton.

Goriuk was working at a hair salon at the time but agreed to relocate to Vancouver several months later. The couple eventually moved into a home on a 20-acre property in Abbotsford.

Goriuk is seeking alimony payments of around $96,000 per month before taxes given the couple’s extravagant lifestyle, which included expensive food and wine, as well as travel by private jet, hired helicopter, and limousine.

In a May 19 ruling, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Anne MacKenzie determined Kroeger should pay Goriuk $25,000 per month after taxes until the legal matter is resolved.

Nickelback is a hugely popular Canadian rock act that formed in the mid 1990s and has sold tens of millions of albums.

The case between Kroeger and Goriuk goes to trial in August.

So if you let someone you're fucking live in your house for 12 continuous months, the government bestows upon them the legal right to steal your shit for the rest of your life..

Well I live in a house named Canada with a guy named Harper who's been fucking me for 5 years, when do I get my $100,000 a month?

if you make the decision to marry or live as husband and wife will all it encompasses (or wife wife /husband husband whatever you flavor is) you automatically accept this responsibility if the relationship terminates, so suck it up . its funny how so many agree to take the step BUT have a hard time being fair when it ends. Accept full responsibility or don't start something you wont end respectfully. and that's my 2 Cents, and willing to give one away if my marriage ends.

      @Sassy

They let this happen ALL the time. It's happened to me, I did nothing wrong whatsoever, the ex simply wanted a change.

The income of the ex doesn't make a difference either. She could make more than him and still be entitled to it.

BTW, if anyone's curious about who's responsible for things getting this way, look no further than the various women's groups constantly lobbying the bar associations and the government.

Whaaaat? If a spouse ask for alimony it does not mean 50% of what the other spouse have. It means common sense monthly/annual expenses based on current prices. This has gone way beyond justice to become injustice to the spouse who is being sued. This is a warning to all, sign a prenup if you think you can not be like Sir Paul...

The way the laws are set up makes gold digging a rewarding enterprise and it's the new lottery for lawyers and enterprising women as we see with so many examples in the media.

Beyond the super-rich, the average Joe has an up-hill battle in the domestic courts which has been favouring women for many years. There are many cases where men have lost everything, including the kids and then been ordered court ordered alimony and child support leaving them with barely enought to survive. Some men have committed suicide because they felt so helpless.

I find it outrageous. I think we should march on the streets about this.

      lyrics "Hey ladies
When your man wants to get buckwild
Just go back and hit 'em up style
Put your hands on his cash
And spend it to the last dime"
      Love it!
