Tear the Curtain! leads Jessie Richardson Awards nominations

The Arts Club Theatre Company production of Tear the Curtain!, in association with Electric Company Theatre, leads the list of nominees for the 29th Annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards.

The production has picked up 10 nominations in the Large Theatre categories, including outstanding actor in a lead role (Jonathon Young); outstanding actress in a lead role (Laura Mennell and Dawn Petten); outstanding light design (Alan Brodie); outstanding set design (David Roberts); outstanding costume design (Nancy Bryant); outstanding sound design or original composition (Peter Allen); outstanding direction (Kim Collier); and significant artistic achievement for integration of film/video (Kim Collier, Jonathon Young, and Kevin Kerr) and for outstanding stage management ensemble (Jan Hodgson and Jennifer Swan). It also has been nominated for outstanding original script (Kevin Kerr and Jonathon Young).

In the Small Theatre categories, Pacific Theatre’s production of Playland has received a leading six nominations, for outstanding performance by an actor in a lead role (Michael Kopsa and Tom Pickett); outstanding lighting design (Lauchlin Johnston); outstanding set design (Drew Facey); outstanding direction (Anthony F. Ingram); and outstanding production.

In the Theatre for Young Audiences categories, Carousel Theatre’s Bird Brain leads with four nominations, for oustanding design (Heidi Wilkinson for set and properties design); outstanding artistic creation (Carole Higgins for direction); outstanding production; and significant artistic achievement (Galean Beatty, Josue Laboucane, and Naomi Wright for outstanding ensemble performance.).

The awards ceremony will be held at the Commodore Ballroom on June 20 at 6:45. Tickets available through Ticketmaster.

Additional awards to be presented at the Jessie ceremony are the Georgia Straight Patron of the Arts Award; the Mary Phillips Prize; the Ray Michal Prize for Emerging Director; the Sam Payne Award for the Most Promising Newcomer; the John Moffat & Larry Lillo Award; the Critics Choice Innovation Award; and the GVPTA Career Achievement Award.
