Vancouver Canucks face Boston Bruins in Stanley Cup final

    1 of 1 2 of 1

      Boston Bruin centre Patrice Bergeron doesn't rack up the point totals of the Sedin twins.

      But his solid two-way play could create an obstacle for the Vancouver Canucks in trying to win their first Stanley Cup in team history.

      Tonight (May 27), the Bruins dispatched the Tampa Bay Lightning 1-0 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final on a third-period goal by Nathan Horton.

      Bergeron and Bruin centre David Krejci won most of their face-offs, which helped make the difference in a game with no penalties.

      They, along with goalie Tim Thomas, bruising defenceman Zdeno Chara, and Horton, present a formidable challenge to the Canucks, who are favoured by most commentators.

      The final series opens on Wednesday (June 1) at Rogers Arena. Game 2 is scheduled for the following Saturday.

      Canuck centre Manny Malhotra has been cleared to play, raising speculation that he might rejoin the team.

      He has been the team's king of the face-off—and would be a valuable asset against Bergeron and Krejci.

      At least the worst team ever to make it to the Stanley Cup (40 years of futility) finally knows who is going to kick their sorry asses. Lozzzer fans will all jump off the bandwagon when wheels fall off the Casmucks.

      uuuummmmmm....when was the last time the Bruins won the Stanley Cup? That's be 1971-72 Season...39 years of futility. The Bruins BTW were established in 1924, and have only won 5 Cups...that's 5 cups in close to 90 years (the majority of which was played in a 6 team league). And this year's team bears little resemblance to the 1982 team...which probably is one of the "worst" teams to make it to the finals. It is the baby bears who are gonna have their asses handed to them...hopefully the Charmin bears are around to offer some nice soft toilet paper to dry up all the tears the Bruins are gonna be crying when yet again they can't win the Cup!

      Sure, we'll see how the smucks do against the Bruins. Surrey is holding parties before the Cup is even won, not a good omen, so is Vancouver, I don't mind it is good for business, and the lozzzer fans can waste a few more evenings killing time. You read it here first: Bruins in 4. Smucks suck.

      Geez, so many angry people.

      It’s ok to believe the Bruins will take the series – you’re even allowed to say so. Here on the west coast, we’re a laid back, tolerant sort of people that encourage diversity not only of culture but of opinion. So, when the Canucks spank the Bruins in four straight, illustrating just how delusional Bruins supporters and Canuck haters were for doubting the pure, unfiltered awesome that is this Canucks squad, we won’t rub it in – we won’t point out that despite being proven wrong at every turn, you curiously clung to your fantasy that the Canucks would fail – we won’t point out how that is one of the more popular definitions of crazy. Hell, we won’t even laugh at your tiny pee-pees, as they shrivel in shame at being wrong YET again. We won’t do these things because, well, we’re just better than you. Oh, by the way, have I mentioned that YOU SUCK! Because you do. Just thought you should know.

      Don't laugh too hard on Wednesday after the Bruins give the casmucks a lesson in humility. Bruins 2, casmucks zero, second goal empty netter when Loowee is off the ice with the casmucks playing with six forwards on Wednesday.

      Apparently you're confusing tolerance with passive-aggressive (local) patriotism. The last time we've seen this type West Coast 'openness' in action was the spectacular villain-narrative created around Dale Begg-Smith during the Olympics. If the Canucks win (which I doubt will happen) because they played a better game, then more power to them. But the day that I root or cheer for a team just because they're from the same place I happen to live will be the day I get a lobotomy.

      @Nester
      -save your money,you'll not notice the lobotomy;
      and please bet against Vancouver,with someone
      who needs the money, that they will surley recieve.

      silly name silly fish

      Any team with a silly smiling fish on its jersey is going nowhere fast. Bruins at least have the B for "Boston" and have a chance.

      Man, people are so uptight.

      Nestor, dude, I’m just talking”¦ uh, what do the kids call it these days”¦ smack? I don’t mean anything by it – it’s all in good fun. I’m sure the Bruins and their fans are fine people, just as the people that hate the Canucks, for whatever reason, aren’t monsters that eat babies for breakfast.

      Sure, it’s silly to support a team simply because of proximity to where they play most often but then, so is filling one’s body and blood with an oxygen process retarding substance (booze) - and yet most of us still do it. Why? Well, sir, I’m pretty sure it has something to with it being a lot of fun.

      So, relax, pull the stick out and make something up about the hygiene habits of people from Calgary/Boston. They’ll return the favour and everyone has a good laugh.
