Bruins lead 1-0 after first period of Game 7, even though the Canucks had more scoring chances

The Vancouver Canucks played well in the first 10 minutes of Game 7 against the Boston Bruins.

But a goal by Bruins centre Patrice Bergeron at 14:37 has put the visitors one goal ahead by the end of the first period.

He chopped a puck past goalie Canucks Roberto Luongo after Brad Marchand backhanded the puck in front of the net.

The Canucks had more scoring chances and outshot the Bruins 8-5. No penalties were assessed in the first frame.

The Bruins, captain Zdeno Chara appeared slightly injured late in the period after Chris Higgins caught him from behind with a left knee into Chara's right thigh.

In the intermission, Higgins told TEAM 1040 Radio that he didn't see Chara.

In the Stanley Cup final, the team that scored first has won every game.

Canucks fans erupted in applause early in the first period when the big screen showed injured winger Mason Raymond in the building.
